Old Dominion Coffee Company

November 10, 2009

I headed back downtown tonight for an evening snack at the Old Dominion Coffee Co. I managed to remember the fact that I’m on a college budget and kept my purchase under $6.

A good sized portion of coffee crumb cake and a small raspberry Italian soda are pictured above. My poor photography skills unfortunately kept the soda out. That’s OK though, because not much needs to be said about it. Tasted like raspberry? Yes. Need more ice? Yes.

Now onto the cake. I was thinking I would be getting a stale slice since I came to the coffee shop at six in the evening. Surprisingly the cake was still moist with plenty of crumbs. The coffee shop itself is a great study area with lamps scattered across tables that essentially give it an “at home” vibe. Even better, they have free wireless.

The coffee itself is fair trade and they also offer over 30 different types of tea (watch of Earth & Tea Cafe!). Right now they are featuring a seasonal pumpkin spice latte and apple cider.

Not in the mood for coffee? Take your pick from the pastries such as the cream cheese and raspberry croissant, pumpkin muffins and apple pie. Should be mentioned that they also have Palazzolo’s gelato on hand. Palazzolo gelato is a Michigan based company which has over 350 different kinds of flavors. Including 15 different kinds of vanilla. How is that possible? Old Dominion keeps it less complicated and carries about 10 flavors. The gelato is Kosher (Mazel Tov!) and was featured on Oprah’s “O” List of favorite things. Now, if only Oprah were at the coffee shop to say, “EVERYONE GETS FREE GELATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
